Diss Community Partnership
....promotes a sense of community and sustainable living in Diss and its surrounding villages.
We are a social enterprise - a partnership between statutory, voluntary, community bodies and businesses. All money raised goes back into our projects.
Our aim is to identify and carry out projects that improve the quality of life for everyone who lives in Diss and to make it a place that people want to visit. Current projects:
- Disslit - a book fair and literature festival
- Taste of Diss - a festival of local food
- Celebrating Tom Paine in Diss
- Cittaslow Resource Centre promoting sustainable living and local products
- A study of how people with disabilities can get about Diss
- Re-invigorating the Diss Farmer's Market
- Developing a new community website, DissConnected.Net
- New signage around the town
- Cittaslow community fund
- Clay lump buildings project
What have we done so far?
- A community fund that has given grants to more than 15 groups within the town
- Diss local history fetival/art exhibition
- Helped the town to gain Cittaslow status
- Set up a Diss branch of the South Norfolk Credit Union
- Launched the Diss Film Society
- Set up the Waveney Valley Food Group and Slow Food Waveney Valley, which have held a range of events and a Food and Craft Fair on Fair Green
- Organised the re-paving of Madgetts Walk in the park
- Organised a year-long, award winning festival to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Diss' own poet laureate John Skelton
- Oranised feasability studies on the long term future of the old infants school and setting up of a youth cafe
- Organised a festival to celebrate John Betjeman's connection with Diss
Why should I join?
- To help Diss thrive as a community
- To promote your ideas and your interests
- To improve the quality of life for you and your family
- Becuase you can be the eyes and ears of our community and acn see what needs to be improved
- Because our projects provide practical benefits (film society, Farmers Market, Fodd festival, community website etc.)
- Because the lore members we have, the easier it is to persuade others to give us grants for Diss
